Where's your bike? Still chained up where you left it? Is it still in the shed or garage overnight? Possibly not! It could be in the hands of a bike thief. A bike is stolen just about every minute (Although police recorded crime statistics show 109,851 bicycle thefts were recorded in England and Wales in 2009/10, this understates the true number because many are not reported) and only 1 in 20 are EVER RECOVERED. Once your bike has been stolen normally your only course of action is to ring the Police station for your crime number and then get onto your insurance company. But it'd be a lot easier if you could just take the police round and get it back (never risk doing this yourself by the way). Say hello to the Cycle Tracker.

The Cycle Tracker is a covert tracking device that is hidden inside a fully operational bicycle rear light. This rear light appears and functions as normal to avoid suspicion but inside it houses a complete GPS tracking device. Hold the on/off button down for 5 seconds and the vibration sensor will activate. Any subsequent movement of your bicycle (it will ignore occasional movement such as wind etc.) will mean you get an instant SMS message and the tracking function will activate so you can see where your bicycle is located. Covert

Cycle Tracker is designed to look innocent and appears and functions as a regular bicycle tail light (a legal requirement in the UK) with 3 red superbright LED's.

Easy to Fit

The Cycle Tracker is fitted to the seatpost in the normal way using the clamp provided but also comes with a hardened steel wire cable that loops around the seatpost so that any passing casual thief is prevented from being able to unscrew the clamp and remove the light. All configuration is done by sending the unit SMS text messages. Once it is installed, you should not need to touch it again.

Activation and Tracking

When leaving your cycle in a high risk area (such as a public cycle rack, outside shops, bus or railway stations or even at home ), all that is needed is for you to press the on/off button on the rear light for 5 seconds and it will enter the alarm mode. If it then detects excessive vibrations it will send you an SMS immediately and commence online tracking. You can log onto the dedicated website and see where your bicycle is currently located. Should you forget to ‘Arm’ the Cycle Tracker, no problem, simply send it a Text Message and the next time it wakes it will know that it is stolen and will begin Tracking.

The light acts as a secret trigger so every time the thief uses the bike, it will check if it is stolen and start sending you its coordinates. In this way your bicycle light will act as bait, as soon as the thief starts to use it, they will give their location away immediately.

Low Running Costs

Using a typical UK SIM, every position upload costs only a fraction of a penny and the text messages sent to your phone are only charged at standard Pay-As-You-Go Text rates. We do not charge you anything, there is just the average SIM data charge (depends upon the SIM Provider, we have found that Tesco Pay-As-You-Go is as good as any but you may shop around!). Your tracker is supplied with a Pay-As-You-Go (Tesco) SIM card with £10 worth of credit already on it, just ensure that it is topped up occasionally.

SMS

The tracker transmits its coordinates to you via SMS (Text Message). You can send the tracker a text message yourself and it will reply with its GPS coordinates (accurate to 5 - 25 meters). You can also configure the tracker to send you its coordinates at regular intervals.

GSM Failsafe

Should your bicycle be inside a building it may not be able to obtain a GPS lock. In this case it will fall back to GSM positioning and although this is less accurate (to approx. 200 meters) it will give you an 'indication' of where your bicycle is until it can obtain a better lock (for example, the next time the thief uses the bicycle). So if the stolen cycle has been hidden in a garage or shed or even in a house, it will send its last known GPS triangulated signal that will be very close to where it is currently hidden.

Power

Cycle Tracker contains a rechargeable lithium battery and is supplied with a charging cord and will operate for up to 12 months between charges. It does this by entering sleep mode when it is not being armed and only wakes at preset intervals. ( preset to every 6 hours but user definable) to check if you have sent it a "stolen" text message. You can adjust these settings depending on your preference for longer battery life or faster response.
