It has been reported that due to the recession, middle class woman are feeling the effects more than most; convenience and speciality food stores are being targeted as high priced cheeses and best cuts of beef are simply going missing, these branded high end foods are being stolen to be eaten rather than to be sold on as these woman try to “keep up with the Joneses” (source).
At the moment Britain tops the shoplifting table across Europe, with almost £5 billion disappearing out our shops doors each year. That’s an increase of almost 20% on 2008 figures. Most hit are clothes and accessories shops with designer shops being targeted more and more, then DIY stores. The report also says “The UK’s retail industry has seen its largest ever increase in shoplifting over the last 12 months, and it comes at a time when the industry can least afford it.”
If you have your own business then you will know that every penny counts, not many small businesses can afford to let products simply ‘walk’ out the front door. How can you stop these professional thieves for targeting your premises? Trained security is always a good deterrent but to be honest can be very expensive, we all know that no matter how good your staff are trained, thieves are always inventing new tactics to stay one step ahead.
One of the best ways to deter would be thieves is to let them know that you are watching them 24/7! And there is no better way than installing an internal CCTV system, which will monitor every area of your premises. As many thieves are opportunistic, having a good quality professional CCTV system installed means they’ll think twice about thieving from your premises.
