Over the last few years there has been an explosion of cooking programs on our small screen, there always seems to be someone trying to impress their guests with their culinary skills or someone else showing us the correct way to boil an egg from the shores of some far-off European lake. Chefs are the new rockstars. However, it’s not all bad as this growing trend is now giving people the confidence to go and try some cooking instead of heading to the local take-away plus more importantly, it is showing us how to eat healthy.
Understandably, with people now having the confidence to attempt new dishes there can often be little miss-haps in the kitchen. Burning things, setting smoke alarms off and waving teatowels underneath them until the constant bleeping stops seems to be a passage of right for the eager cook.
Round about the tenth time of the alarm going off, crazily, some people actually remove the batteries from their smoke alarms rendering them “useless” — this is never a good solution.
However, if you find that your smoke alarm is going off more and more then perhaps it’s time to change your alarm – rather than disabling it. There are other fire safety systems on the market which will protect your family and possessions just as well as a smoke alarm. Fire Alarms work when the heat from a fire is detected not the smoke, again alerting you that something is wrong.
Whichever alarm system you decide to use – you should never assume that nothing will go wrong – kitchens can be dangerous places to work.
