So far this winter we seem to be having a bit of a dry spell and that’s good news if you’re a caravanning enthusiast. During these dry spells, our mobile, hardy ‘holiday makers‘ love nothing better than to hitch up their caravans and head off to find the nearest camping and caravanning meet and enjoy the wilds of Britain.

There are hundreds of thousands of caravans and motorhomes within our tiny Island. Granted, there not all on the road at the same time. But caravan weekend breaks are becoming hugely popular (it’s estimated to be around a £3 billion yearly industry). However, as with everything else in life there is a downside, for caravan owners are at an even greater risk from opportunistic theft. Most thieves see caravans as an easy target. Which makes caravan security a priority.

If you intend to head off this weekend in your Caravan, have a look at our vehicle security devices… These have been specifically chosen by us to help stop opportunistic thieves hitching up and driving away with your weekend home.

After the last few weeks of partying, many revellers will have hit the ground with a bump this week as they consider starting back at work… There’s the thought of early rises and travelling to work in the cold, dark and wet winter mornings. It’s enough to make you stick you head back under the pillow. It’s not surprising to learn that, just after the New Year, is a boom time for booking the annual spring or summer break, as we try to kick those January blues into touch. Having an annual holiday is a great way for us Brits to relax, whether it’s in own own country or sunning ourselves on some foreign shore, it’s always a great pickmeup knowing, in just a few months, you’ll be heading for some fun in the sun.

Yet, in the months ahead, as millions of us head off on our annual holiday, we’ll do so with little or even no regard to travel safety. As we at Crime Prevention Products are constantly pointing out, it only takes a matter of seconds for an opportunistic thief to make off with something of value, whether that might be your bag, purse, wallet, passport or cash.

When it comes to protecting yourself, family and possessions, whilst on holiday, we have the ideal security devices to help keep you safe and make sure your long-awaited break goes to plan.

As we approach the winter holidays many people will be taking to the roads in order to spend time with their family, friends and loved ones over the festive period. Whilst every care has been taken to make sure that our roads (motorways, major and minor) are fit to travel, winter driving can be challenging for even the most experienced of motorists.

As the winter weather begins to take grip we have to start thinking about safety measures whilst driving on our busy roads. You just need to remember last winter and how quickly our Island was brought to a standstill as snow fell in record amounts and the temperatures plummeted.

Drivers and their passengers were caught out in the ‘cold snap’ with the unlucky ones having to spend the night huddled in their vehicles waiting to be dug out!

This is why we, at Crime Prevention Products, have written this blog post to encourage all drivers to make a check list before travelling in winter weather to ensure that if anything should happen they’ll be at least prepared…

Spare blanket kept in the car – just incase you are held up for any reason.

Torch with spare batteries.

First aid kit.

Sweets and chocolate – will help keep energy levels high.

Emergency Life Hammer – available from Crime Prevention Products.

Box of Matches or Lighter.

Tow Rope.

Fire extinguisher – available from Crime Prevention Products.

Remember, if you’re not comfortable about driving in winter weather and your journey is not essential then the best advice is to stay at home and be safe!

As we start to slide into winter, our thoughts turn to what might the weather hold for us this season. The past couple of years has seen the UK crippled by the coldest winters in 45 years and one forecaster, Anthony McEvoy (a long range weather forecaster), has predicted more of the same for the months of November, December and January ahead.

Yet, despite talk/speculation that we’re heading for another severe winter there will be over half a million lucky souls who’ll be flying out from our countries major airports (hopefully) to celebrate the festive holidays elsewhere.

One popular winter destination is the “City that Never Sleeps” – New York! With thousands of UK residents heading there for either pre-Christmas shopping or just to visit the many sights the city has to offer.

One of the biggest obstacles, we have to face when landing in a foreign country is the ‘dreaded baggage carousel‘ within the crowded terminal building. Many holidays have been ruined at this very moment when cases vanish, disappear or in all the haste you accidentally lift someone else’s luggage.

When it comes to recognising and claiming your luggage at any international airport, we at Crime Prevention Products have the perfect device for you… The Wordlock Luggage Padlock in Pink! This Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved lock will not only protect your luggage but will make it easy for you to recognise your baggage at any airport.

What makes the Wordlock Luggage Padlock different is that instead of difficult numbers to remember or a ‘small’ key that can be easily lost or forced open all you have to do is remember a simple four letter combination.

The Wordlock Luggage Padlock is the essential xmas stocking filler for all serious travellers. What’s more this product is available for International shipping.

As we say goodbye to the last remnants of the summer sun, many caravanning enthusiasts will be busy preparing their mobile ‘home from homes’ to make them secure for winter storage. For some, they’ll use an open air storage site (a big field or concrete compound) or an undercover storage area (normally, a big warehouse) to use as a winter secure storage base. However, for many caravanners, the cheapest form of winter caravan storage is the home driveway.

Many caravan owners still believe that their garden is the safest place for their ‘van’ as they can watch over it day and night, and with the use of proper home security devices such as wheel clamps and hitch locks this can make it even more difficult for potential thieves to simply hitch-up and drive off with their caravan.

Yet, there are disadvantages for those people who decide to store their caravans at home. For, according to Lifesure Caravan Insurance, statistics show that the vast majority of thefts taking place are actually home burglaries.

Here at Crime Prevention Products, we can supply caravan owners with various security devises such as hitch locks, wheel clamps and security parking posts. So, if they do decide to store their caravan at home, they have the products available to make their home caravan storage as secure as possible!

Each year, we save our pennies in preparation for the family annual holiday to help us relax, recharge our batteries before we begin to settle back into the ol’ daily routine. However, as the family matures our grown children will soon decide that holidaying with the parents ‘cramps their style’ and will decide to make their own holiday plans. In recent years backpacking has become very popular among young people as it’s an affordable way to travel and offers a great experience to sample different cultures close at hand.

Although backpacking holidays can be very rewarding and safe, as parents we naturally worry about our children’s safety as they head off on their ‘big adventure’.

Here are just a few backpacking safety tips and devices that any backpackers should be aware of before they head off on their big experience:

Arrange ‘home callback times’ most populated areas areas will have wi-fi making it easy to communicate back home. If you’re travelling in less populated areas do your homework before you set-off as to how and when you’ll be able to communicate.

Backpackers should invest in purchasing good quality locks to help keep their valuables safe.

Personal alarms are a great way to ward off unwanted attention and help give any backpacker those vital seconds to make an escape.

Any backpacker should always research the country they’re going to visit beforehand as it will help in understanding the different customs and laws they’ll face.

At Crime Prevention Products we can supply you with range of travel and backpacking security devices which will help add to their safety and ease the concerns of parents.

One of the signs that summer is fast approaching has to be the sight of the white caravan being towed through our national road network. As the weather heats up, many caravan owners can be seen heading off for their traditional weekend breaks or even longer holidays, as this can often work out cheaper in comparison to paying for hotels and flights especially due to the credit crunch. Motorways, by-passes and then country roads often see convoys of these mobile ‘home from homes’ being towed. These slow moving vehicles are often blamed for traffic build up on our roads and are, therefore, often the target for road-rage.

These last few years has seen a dramatic increase in the amount of people ditching the need for a passport and instead holidaying at home, and treating the family to a caravanning holiday on the British coastline. However, as the number of caravans increase, so does the amount of caravan theft. One of the last things anyone wants is for something to be stolen from their caravan, or even worse, returning after a day out to find that their caravan has simply disappeared.

When it comes to protecting your caravan there are several tips that can be done:

Use sites that are recommended by Camping and Caravanning clubs.

Never leave your doors unlocked, even if you’re just going to fill up the water butt. Opportunistic thieves only need seconds to walk away with your possessions.

Never leave valuables lying around in open view.

Have some kind of hitch lock that will prevent someone from simply driving off with your caravan.

At Crime Prevention Products we stock Trailer and Caravan Hitch Locks and even fire safety equipment which will ensure that if anything should get out of hand whilst cooking you’ll at least be prepared.

In today’s uncertain economical climate and job insecurity, many households across Britain may be persuaded to ditch their annual foreign holiday and instead look to explore the delights of their own countryside. There are two ways of doing this, one is by camping where people simply pack up the car with the necessary equipment and head out to explore the ‘untamed wild’, the other is by caravan which is more sophisticated and a lot more comfier, in-fact caravanning holidays in Britain have seen a steady rise over the past couple of years as more and more people try this popular type of getaway. (source 1)

However, caravanning and camping are by no means new types of holiday in this country. The National Caravan Council stated in 2002 -2003 that there were almost 500,000 caravans in Britain and that almost £2billion was spent by people taking caravan and camping holidays making it one of the most popular holidays for British people (source 2). In today’s uncertain climate this figure is sure to increase due to the number of people that will be spending their annual holidays in this county instead of foreign shores.

Whether you’re heading out with your tent or hitching up your caravan there are several personal security precautions that have to be followed. Like all holidays there is always the criminal element that will see you as easy prey and try to walk off with your personal belongings. Here at Crime Prevention Products we have a security section that is dedicated to travel and backpacking safety as well as caravan and car security.

With Summer nearly upon us, many of our young students will be considering what they’re going to be doing with themselves during their annual holiday. Some might find part-time work, others will barely venture out from under their duvet except for neccessities like food and batteries for their console controller but the more adventurous ones will be getting ready to set off on an age-old, student tradition – ‘ The Gap Year‘.

Gap Year’s are prolonged breaks that students take time out from their studies or before they start college or university. Normally the requirements for a gapyear is a backpack full of vitals and plane tickets to head off to some exotic sun-kissed shore or trekking through villages that lay high in the foothills of various mountain ranges.

Even though thousands of students head off AND return safely without any serious incidents hindering their travels, it is always advisable to be prepared for any security threats that might happen while they are on their travels.

Whilst heading off on their travels there are various personal security devices for travelers and backpackers which are available at Crime Prevention Products for the seasoned and not so seasoned traveller. However, there are also safety tips which everyone should adopt as they trek through a foreign country.

Here are just a few safety tips for gap year students:

Always try and travel / walk with a companion, never walk in the dark in places that you are unsure about.

Refrain from wearing named brand clothing and expensive jewellery.

Be careful whilst using bank machines (ATM’s) and never ‘flash the cash’.

Keep your passport, cash and travel documents in a locked safe or somewhere only you will find them.

Research the country/countries that you’re about to visit. Find out if there are any news on major or dangerous conflicts, uprisings or even civil unrest.

This year if you and your friends are considering visiting a distant country, try and remember that each country has it’s own set of laws, health risks and customs. Being prepared on keeping safe during a gap year and planning ahead will ensure students enjoy this full and rewarding experience.

Round about this time of year people may be busy thinking about their annual getaway. The thought of heading off for a week or two to some sunny shore or Backpacking through some foreign countryside is enough to get everyone excited. Hours will be spent planning, discussing and booking the holiday, either online or through the local travel agents, making sure that everything is just right.

When it comes to your annual holiday, no one expects things to go wrong. However, as we all know sometimes nothing ever goes to plan. Holiday firms going into administration, hotels being closed down and freak weather patterns can turn your fortnight break in to a holiday from hell. In most cases, people will have holiday insurance which will cover them for most of the inconvenience, after all, that’s why we purchase it in the first place.

A few things to consider when it comes to Backpacking, Horse Riding or even Skiing holidays, either in your own country or heading further afield… People have to be more aware of the dangers of something going wrong. Although specialist holiday insurance is a must, there are also other precautions that are advisable to help protect yourself as well as your possessions.

Crime Prevention Products have a range of Travel and Backpacking security products which will alert attention, help protect and hide some of your most valuable possessions. Door guards and alarmed door wedges for hostels, hiding places for your passports and money and even emergency lighting are all products that should be thought about before heading off on your backpacking adventure.

Here at Crime Prevention Products we believe that everyone has the right to have a safe and enjoyable holiday.
