Many people feel that theft from a shop or factory is ok, well not ok but not as serious as stealing from someones house. Shop theft is big business, often shops and businesses are seen as easy targets as merchandise is often unattended and placed right to the front door. The Independent Retail News has reported an increase in shoplifting in the last half of last year this has been put down to the credit crunch (source). For over a decade CCTV has helped businesses and property owners protect their investments. Thousands of arrests have been possible thanks to CCTV. But it seems lately that many of us have become lacksidasical with our CCTV systems with vital evidence in crimes being lost because the CCTV cameras are not being looked after properly. In fact the problem is so widescale that Police have issued a new report urging owners of CCTV cameras to look after their systems better.
