Home Security For Everyone

Opportunistic BurglarWhether it’s walking to the shops, getting fit in the local park or waiting to use the cash machine at the local convenience store, we want to feel safe while carrying out these actions. In saying that, recently we’ve heard various stories about people being robbed at gun point, women being assaulted as they try to get fit and even opportunistic theft, as masked people ‘snatch and grab’ handbags, laptops and wallets as people go about doing their daily business. Theft of any type can/and will leave most people traumatised often taking them months even years to overcome.

However, there is one crime that most people fear the most, the thought that someone has entered their personal space, looking through their personal possessions for items that can be easily sold on. One shocking statistic is that, every 37 seconds in Britain one house is burgled, that equates to over a million burglaries and attempted burglaries every year. Many people in Britain still have that “it will never happen to me” mentality when it comes to their homes as they “live in a good neighbourhood”, well thieves love home-owners like that, as they can often be seen as easy prey.

The other excuse that people use for not protecting their homes is that “modern house alarms can work out to be very expensive“, this can be true if you decide to go for the top of the range models with plenty of ‘extras’.

We at Crime Prevention Products believe that every home in Britain should have some kind of home security which will stop thieves simply walking in and out as they please. That’s why we stock an affordable range of home security products which will give you that extra peace of mind while your in or even out of your family home.

Stop Burglars Having A Prosperous New Year

Filed under: Home Security — admin @ 12:30 pm

As the bells toll at midnight, on the last day of the year, many residents will be busy celebrating the start of another year, while others will contemplate and reflect on the one just past. Traditionally, in many parts of the country (such as Northern England and Scotland) it is custom for folks to head out and celebrate bringing in the New Year with their neighbours. With some homes lying empty there may be alternative motives for someone chapping your door. Opportunist thieves love nothing better than a home that looks unoccupied, and if you’re out ‘First Footing’ or spending New Year elsewhere, you can be assured these type of criminals will be in your home given the chance.

One of the most distressing times, in anyone’s life, is the experience of being burgled. The thought of someone unknown being in your home going through your personal possessions is a horrendous one. With Christmas just passed, there still may be kids toys and gifts laid out on the living room floor, all quick and easy targets for a burglar.

One of the best ways to decrease your chances of being burgled is to make them think that you’re still at home. Here at Crime Prevention Products we have a large selection of home security products including the ideal solution for making people believe you’re home is occupied – the Fake TV. Designed like a small lamp the powerful lights glow as if you’re still in the house watching your favourite after dark show.

fake tvAs the dark winter nights begin to take grip some people will be thinking there is nothing better than cranking up their central heating systems and relaxing in front of their TV’s, whilst watching their favourite soaps. However, there are still the die-hard revellers, that no matter how bad the weather gets, they’ll still have to have their nights out.

Opportunistic thieves are a bit like the die-hard revellers, no matter the weather they’ll be out, scouring for a chance to make some easy money and they love nothing better than a house, sitting in a winters evening, with no lights on.

Every weekend thousands of people leave their homes unprotected thinking, “This is a safe street”, only to return and find their possessions gone and even more disturbingly being left with the feeling that some stranger has been in their home.

Crime Prevention Products have the perfect home security device that will fool a passing criminal into thinking that someone is inside a house, even when their not – The Fake TV! This small lamp glows and flickers just like your television would, given off the impression to someone passing by that you’re tucked up inside watching your favourite soap during these long winter nights.

Stop The Sneak Thief

Filed under: Home Security — admin @ 12:51 pm

As the nights begin to get darker a lot sooner, homeowners might start to think about beefing up their home security. This might entail purchasing a new home security alarm system, door & window locks and even personal alarms for their children if their out-and-about during the cold, late nights.

As the winter weather beats down on our shores many of us tend to blot out the conditions outside by turning the central heating temperature to tropical settings and get cosy in front of the TV, surf the web or just enjoy a good book. This is the season when we spend more time than any other indoors.

Unfortunately, as we descend into hybernation mode, opportunistic thieves love this time of year, as they can often prowl unnoticied around our premises seeking out that slightly ajar window or back door allowing them entry into your domain.

At Crime Prevention Products we stock a range of products that can help foil any attempt by an individual to steal, defraud or take advantage of you. The PIR Curtain Alarm is a great device which is designed to protect an open window or unlocked doorway by alerting you of an attempted entry. This product can also be used as a welcome chime, again alerting you that one of your family or friends has entered your premises.

Bogus Caller Password Scheme

A sad fact of modern living is that there is always someone wanting to get something from you for nothing: pickpockets in the street; dodgy market traders selling substandard goods; opportunistic thieves running by and snatching your money as you leave the cash dispenser. These unfortunate circumstances can be a harrowing experience for most, however one type of burglary that frightens everyone, is the thought of someone invading your personal space. A stranger being in your home going through your personal possessions with no regard whatsoever, snatching anything they think has some worth… Worst of all, burglaries just don’t take place when you’re out of your home but do take place while you and your family are sleeping or sitting in the other room unaware of what is going on.

In recent years there have a number of incidents where people have claimed to be from your electricity or gas provider, these bogus callers enter your home and leave with not only your cash but some of your cherished possessions.

Here at Crime Prevention Products we are always on the lookout for ways to beat theft, and one way that we think is worth mentioning is the bogus caller password scheme which many of our service providers are running.

The system is available to domestic customers who use services such as British Gas Home Guard where only a genuine British Gas representative visiting your home will be able to identify themselves using a pre-arranged password.

This system could be valuable for elderly or vulnerable relatives, friends or neighbours who are more likely to become victims of distraction burglars. Please contact your individual companies to find out if they operate such a system – the telephone numbers will be available from your energy bills.

Futureproof Your Home Security

Filed under: Crime News,Home Security — admin @ 3:49 pm

Since the new Coalition Government announced it’s measures to bring Britain back from the brink of economical disaster there have been reports, discussions and even demonstrations about what this will really mean to the people of this nation. One area that will be under the spotlight is our great Police force. In a recent news article centered around the Scottish Police Federation (SPF) as they revealed that the police budget for 2011-12 could be reduced by as much as £88,560,000 or the equivalent of losing 2,808 police officers.

With all these Police Officers missing from the streets of Scotland, the SPF have warned that this could be a “false economy that would set Scotland back by decades!”, They also warned that crime levels WILL increase, stressing the knock-on effect on costs to the National Health Service, the courts, social work and other agencies. However, this report is not just unique to Scotland, this will be common to all our Police Constabularies within the UK over the next few years – we can expect to see less police visible on our streets.

Considering what may lay ahead, now is the perfect time to increase your own home security and think about your own families personal protection. Crime Prevention Products have a wide range of security hardware that are guaranteed to help you safe guard your home, family and possessions. No matter what the future holds, it is always better to be prepared!
