Don’t Get Taken To The Cleaners

Filed under: Home Security — admin @ 12:09 pm

keep the house secure while spring cleaningSlowly, the daylight hours are beginning to last that little bit longer and, by the end of this month, the clocks will jump forward one hour, sending us all ‘officially’ into British Summer Time. As the days begin to brighten and become warmer, there’s a long standing tradition that is synonymous with spring time – The Annual Spring Clean. Why we’re driven to dust down our homes, from top to bottom, I have no idea, perhaps it’s a need to ‘wipe away’ the long dark winter season.

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of spring cleaning, however, with your doors and windows ‘wide open to the world‘ you need to make sure you’re not ‘inviting in‘ someone who is looking to help themselves to something of yours.

Opportunistic thieves will take full advantage of an open door or window, helping themselves to some ‘easy money’. If you’re going to spring clean in the next few weeks, think about what you’re leaving in full view for any passers by to notice… Where do you leave your car keys? Is your hand bag just dangling over the dining chair, just a few feet from the window? Those valuable ornaments sitting next to the door, how quickly would it take for someone to just snatch them. Would you notice straightaway? Don’t make it easy for an opportunist thief to just ‘breeze’ in with the wind and be off with your possessions.

At CPP we have the perfect home security hardware such as window locks that will allow you to open your windows just enough to let the fresh air in and keep sneak thiefs out… We also stock plenty of Door Security Products that will allow you to ‘vacuum in peace‘ in the knowledge that the most vulnerable part of your home – the door – is secure.

This year spring clean in confidence without someone taking you to the cleaners!

Protect Your Home Against Lock Snapping

Filed under: Home Security — admin @ 1:51 pm

lock snappingIt’s good news to hear that the latest crime figures are falling in the right direction, but it doesn’t mean that crime has completely disappeared from everyday life. There are still plenty of opportunistic thieves out there, willing to take a chance in the hope of making some free money.

In a recent report, from West Yorkshire Police, thieves are applying a new and easy method, in order to gain entry to homes. ‘Lock Snapping‘ happens when the euro cylinder inside the locks are snapped, causing the door to simply open. Chief Supt Paul Money, from West Yorkshire Police, says it can take between 50 seconds and 2 minutes to break the cylinder and a burglar being in your home.

Lock Snapping, which has its origins in Bradford, has been responsible for as many as 27% of all burglaries during December (source).

As this method becomes more common knowledge amongst the criminal fraternity, many more thieves will use Lock Snapping as the preferred choice of entry. The disturbing news is that there are millions of these euro cylinder locks used in UPVC and other double glazed doors throughout the country.

If you’re worried about your own home security and especially if you’re doors use euro cylinder locks then Crime Prevention Products have a vast range of door security products that can bolster up your doors defence against this type of attack.

Make A Mark On Your Possessions

Filed under: Home Security — admin @ 3:55 pm

Remember the days when you were happy to receive just one main Christmas present? Oh, how have times changed! Parents and Grandparents, nowadays, spend small fortunes on making sure our kids ‘want for nothing’! Of-course, you can point the finger of blame to commercialism or ‘Pester Power‘ or just ‘overdoing it for the sake of overdoing it‘. Fact is, with many gifts costing in excess of £100 per item, it’s no wonder parents are anxious to protect their kids’ gifts long after the Christmas day euphoria has passed.

As parents we’re only to aware that our children are notorious for leaving/dumping toys and bikes in the front garden or driveway, heck even in the street… in full view of any opportunistic thief that just happens to be passing by. These thieves may not be part of any organised crime syndicate, they may be children from another estate or town or just someone wanting to make some quick, easy money down the local pub.

Every year millions of pounds of stolen property is recovered by the police and other government bodies, however, identifying the owners can prove to be a bit more tricky. One of the best ways to help make sure your property is identifiable is to place a special mark on it, a unique mark that only you will know – such as your postcode. Crime Prevention Products can supply various Property Marking Kits that will ensure that if your possessions are stolen and recovered they have at least a chance of being returned to you.

Bargain Home Security

Filed under: Home Security — admin @ 3:52 pm

Over the last few months, the good people of Britain have been constantly hit with bad news regarding the nation’s economy. With the holidays just around the corner, there will be many residents who’ll be wondering what they’re going to do to ensure their family has a decent Christmas.

We’re constantly warning our readers that it only takes a thief a mere couple of seconds to spot an opportune open door or window and be off with something of value. It’s no wonder it’s called ‘easy money‘ for a reason. Even garden sheds and garages will be targeted if opportunistic thieves reckon they can make a quick buck without the risk of being caught.

Crime Prevention Products also understand that when money is an issue the last thing you’ll be wanting to be spend your hard-earned cash on is a top-of-the-range home security system. Household Winter Dangers

Filed under: Home Security — admin @ 1:13 pm

It has to be said, that although we’re already in November, the temperatures are still hovering above the average for this time of year. However, as we all know, the temperatures will soon drop and we’ll be forced to turn up the heating thermostat.

Over the Summer and into the Autumn we’ve heard news form the Met Office that the UK can expect another cold and snowy winter. In time as the temperatures begin to fall and we start using heating appliances that may have laid ‘redundant’ since last winter we have to be aware of the ‘silent killer‘ – Carbon Monoxide!

Carbon Monoxide poisoning is responsible for the deaths of around 50 people every year (source). Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning may be similar to those of viral cold and flu infections or even food poisoning.

It is inevitable that we’re going to turn on our heating systems to stay warm during cold periods of weather, however as we cannot see, hear or smell Carbon Monoxide it is advisable to keep your household safe with a Carbon Monoxide Detector and avoid the potential danger of Carbon Monoxide poisoning!

Winter Time Home And Personal Security Tips

Filed under: Home Security — admin @ 12:51 pm

Last weekend we said a fond farewell to the British summertime and adjusted our clocks accordingly, slicing an hour’s worth of daylight from our lives. At the moment, the only downside to adjusting our clocks to winter settings means we’ll get home from work in the dark. But as the week’s advance and winter time settles in, it’ll not be long before we’re heading off to work in the dark as well.

An expected rise in burglaries happens during the winter months as the cover of darkness makes it easier for sneak thiefs to get around. A piece of home security advice we’d like to offer home owners who get home after dark in the winter months is to think about installing security timers which can switch appliances on and off automatically at different times throughout the day – these can switch on lamps or radios – as there’s no better invitation to an opportunistic thief than you’re home sitting in darkness.

Also, elderly residents are often seen as ‘soft targets’ during the winter months. Which is why we urge people to “think ahead” in terms of protecting themselves. When it comes to personal alarms some may be too fidgety or too small to work with for our elderly customers and the pull rings can be somewhat impossible to grasp. Therefore we have the ideal personal alarm for those that have decreased mobility in their hands.

Our Chaperone Nightingale Personal Alarm has no cords or small pull rings just a very large button that activates the loud 120+ dB ear piercing alarm ensuring ease of use for elderly home owners.
