Remember, remember the 5th of November, The Gunpowder, Treason and Plot. As many of you will know, this is the start of a nursery rhyme that was written to commemorate the failed gun powder plot of 1605 when Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament. So, as we approach this date we ready ourselves for a night of bonfires, the night sky lit up with fireworks and the inevitable loud bangs that drive most dogs crazy. For most, Bonfire Night will pass with no trouble at all as councils and community groups organise special events to help celebrate this custom with safety as the main priority.

The dark side of Bonfire Night is that ceratin individuals/groups use this time of the year to terrorise neighbourhoods. In England they call it ‘Mischievous Night‘ where youths have been known to set fireworks off down local streets, place ‘bangers’ through people’s letterboxes even attacking other teenagers, pets and local business all in the name of ‘fun’.

Ask any home or local business owner, who has been the victim of a firework prank, just how much damage a ‘banger’ or ‘rocket’ can cause to premises.

Crime Prevention Products are committed to protecting local residents and businesses that’s why we can supply some of the markets best Anti Arson Letterboxes, which will ensure that if anything flammable is placed though your door, that’s as far as it gets. Our Anti Arson Letterboxes have been tested at the Warrington Fire Research Establishment to determine performance.

You can now buy from the CPP shop and pay in Euros or $US Dollars. Please feel free to read more about our International Shipping Information.

Each year we try our best at decorating not only our traditional Christmas tree but the whole house – inside as well as out. Using rope lighting and in recent times, fibre optic technology, we now have everything from Santa and his reindeer’s to trees and falling stars and even polar bears pretending to ski off your roof. Every year, our ‘inner child’ tends to resurface and we purposely head out to look for even more up-to-date decorations to add to our collection.

To be honest these all look great and in many cases are perfectly safe, however at this time of year there are always criminal organisations that will import inferior decorations for you to purchase. Many of these products will not conform to any of our Health and Safety regulations which carries the risk of putting your family in extreme danger. Also don’t overload plug sockets and remember to turn off all lights when you go to bed, including the fairy lights on any indoor Christmas trees.

Here at Crime Prevention Products we stock a range of fire extinguishers, fire blankets and early detection devices such as smoke alarms just incase the unthinkable should happen.

Towards the end on this month most of us will be sick of hearing the constant banging of fireworks being set off at night. Many of these fireworks will be set off by youths, probably after a few drinks and many be will set off in harmless fun. However, there will be some youths or gangs which can take this a bit too far and may ‘think’ it’s funny to post fireworks through the letterboxes of homes, shops or even the local school building. This can often cause thousands of pounds of damage or even worse – place someone’s life in danger.

Here at Crime Prevention Products we know that we cannot stop people buying fireworks or alcohol but we can stop the fireworks from entering your premises. These Anti-Arson Letterboxes contain a thermo-sensitive polymer tube which is filled with the ozone friendly extinguisher FE-25 which will put a fire out in less than 15 seconds. All our extinguishers are designed for homes, businesses and local schools.

Now is the perfect time to be turning up the thermostat on the gas central heating system or even turn on the gas fire in the living room – just to take the chill out of the air.

One of the major problems with fuel burning appliances is that – if they are not running efficiently they will cause Carbon Monoxide, which will kill you. Carbon Monoxide is tasteless, odourless and colourless making it difficult to detect if it is leaking from a gas appliance. One of the best ways of alerting you that Carbon Monoxide is present in your room is to have a alarm that detects this killer.

One of the best Carbon Monoxide Alarms available is the Battery Powered Electronic Carbon Monoxide Alarm which is also guaranteed for 5 years. Around 30 and 50 people die each year from carbon monoxide poisoning. Even a small dose of carbon monoxide poisoning can be very harmful to an individual – signs of carbon monoxide poisoning are headaches, vertigo, and flu-like effects. Again it is very difficult to tell the difference between carbon monoxide poisoning and contracting the flu around this time of year. Carbon monoxide poisoning is the most common type of fatal poisoning in the UK. By installing a Carbon Monoxide Alarm you can help detect this silent killer early enough.

When it comes to protecting our kids, we try to give them all the worldly advice and wisdom that we have accumulated throughout the years, however, like most parental discussions, it often goes in one ear and out the other. In just a few weeks time, thousands of our nation’s children will be leaving the family home for the first time and heading off to University and College campuses.

Without doubt, this is a time for mixed emotions and excited nervousness as parents up and down the land, watch their children take their first steps towards adulthood and learning the basic tools required for future career opportunities.

On the flip side, Universities and Colleges are renowned for their party nights, social evenings and late night study classes. Which can often have most parents worrying that their children are taking care of themselves.

“Study Nights” can quickly descend into “a late night students party” – no surprise there then – and we all know, that cooking when drunk is never a good recipe (half of accidental house fires are caused by cooking), nor is smoking in small, confined quarters. Here at Crime Protection Products, we have a range of fire safety products that will help alert your child should a fire accidentally break out.

Is it just me or is it starting to get cooler at night? Maybe, it’s just the good old British weather trying to deceive us once more, and will wait until September to heat up once more. Never the less over the next few months, nights will start to feel a bit chillier and people will be forced to flick the switch on their central heating systems, turning the heating thermometers into the 20′s.

Putting on the central heating may seem a bit drastic for some people, preferring instead to turn on the gas fire in the living room in order take the chill out of the autumn night air.

Simply by turning on a faulty gas fire you could be releasing a silent killer into your room. Carbon Monoxide (CO) is caused when fuel is not burned properly. Carbon Monoxide is tasteless, odourless, colourless and non irritating and it will kill you. Here at Crime Prevention Products we understand that people, especially the elderly and those with little children, sometimes like to have extra heat in their homes at night which is why gas fires/heaters should be maintained reguarly.

Purchasing Carbon Monoxide Detectors and Alarms is a cheap way to make sure that your family is safe from the silent killer which is Carbon Monoxide. Also ideal for taking on holidays, especially during the off-peak times.

It’s here at last! Well, according to the weather man and my calendar, British Summertime has begun and we will ALL be waiting to see what will the next few months bring? If we listen to the experts we should be in for a ‘scorcher‘, however, let’s be honest, they said that last year and look what happened rain, rain and then it rained some more.

But, this year it’s going to be different – so the say!

Although, no matter what the weather is like, something special is about to happen this summer, (well for everyone that enjoys the beautiful game, that is). The football world cup will be kicking off in less than three months time and in preparation for the start and hopefully the warm weather some people may be heading to the local DIY shops looking to purchase a top of the range BBQ and perhaps a paddling pool for the kids, if there is any change left over.

BBQ’s are great, they epitomise summertime (thanks to our Aussie cousins) and the smell of barbecued food just sends the taste buds into overdrive, but hot weather, alcohol, lighter fuel and flames can all be a recipe for disaster.

Be prepared this summer, remember to think about fire safety in the garden and have a fire blanket and fire extinguisher next to your cooking area. Help keep your summertime a fun time and stay safe.

Over the last few years there has been an explosion of cooking programs on our small screen, there always seems to be someone trying to impress their guests with their culinary skills or someone else showing us the correct way to boil an egg from the shores of some far-off European lake. Chefs are the new rockstars. However, it’s not all bad as this growing trend is now giving people the confidence to go and try some cooking instead of heading to the local take-away plus more importantly, it is showing us how to eat healthy.

Understandably, with people now having the confidence to attempt new dishes there can often be little miss-haps in the kitchen. Burning things, setting smoke alarms off and waving teatowels underneath them until the constant bleeping stops seems to be a passage of right for the eager cook.

Round about the tenth time of the alarm going off, crazily, some people actually remove the batteries from their smoke alarms rendering them “useless” — this is never a good solution.

However, if you find that your smoke alarm is going off more and more then perhaps it’s time to change your alarm – rather than disabling it. There are other fire safety systems on the market which will protect your family and possessions just as well as a smoke alarm. Fire Alarms work when the heat from a fire is detected not the smoke, again alerting you that something is wrong.

Whichever alarm system you decide to use – you should never assume that nothing will go wrong – kitchens can be dangerous places to work.

There is an area in personal and home protection that people seem to take for granted, even though, nearly every week it kills families and destroys buildings. Fire and smoke related incidents is responsible for over 400 deaths each year in the UK and also causes millions of pounds worth in damage. Which means that the Fire Services are called out to over 600,000 incidents involving domestic or industrial premisses and that figure is increasing year by year.

Overlooking this area of protection and prevention is a very dangerous assumption and one that you could live to regret. Fire prevention is something that every household should practice, what happens if there is a fire in your home? Does your family know what to do? Have you even discussed a fire escape route?

Fire is a killer and it doesn’t discriminate who it kills! However, there are products on the market that will alert you that smoke and fire are present in your home.
