Back Seat Hotel Security

Filed under: Travel Security — admin @ 3:39 pm

When we book our annual holidays we automatically take a ‘back seat’ when it comes to personal protection & security and tend to let the hotels own internal security take over. Tourists all over the world seem to take the “it will never happen to me” attitude when on foreign shores. Just because you are on holiday or on a business trip doesn’t mean you have to let your guard down.

One of the worst crimes that can happen to anyone on holiday (or a business trip) is hotel room invasion. This is when a person(s) intrude into your own personal space by either forceful entry or deception (acting as porters or cleaners). Such criminal activity can ruin the remainder of a persons hoilday or trip as well as being very traumatic to all involved.

There are several devices that you can purchase to help extra-protect your room, contents and family:

  • Door Wedge Alarm, just place it under the door and not only will stop your door opening but it will also alert you that someone is attempting to gain entry.
  • Key Less Door Lock, ideal if your door has no lock or if you are suspicious that someone else may have a key to that door.
  • Portable Door Guardian, many crimes are conducted by opportunistic thieves, so place the door guardian over you handle and it will alert you that someone is there.

Every year, millions of pounds are simply walking out of hotels, hostels and lodges! Although, there are many security devices on the market it also helps to be streetwise and not to flaunt your money or possessions in public view.
