Illuminating Security Features

protect your garden / yard with a security lightWhen it comes to protecting your property it’s advisable to have some sort of security installed on your premises. However, there is an area that many residents forget to protect – their garden or yard. Summertime is just as prone to backdoor theft as the dark nights. Probably more so, as expensive items are left outside such as barbecues, bikes and garden furniture that would normally be locked away in a shed or garage.

Most theft committed is opportunistic rather than the targetted type. In an instant someone will notice a bike or some other item in your garden or yard and take the decision, there and then, to snatch it for themselves. Protecting your garden or yard with security lighting has to be one of the most effective ways of deterring opportunist thieves. Few criminals are willing to commit a crime when the area is illuminated or will have immediate second thoughts about their actions when their unwanted presence triggers the sensor and their suddenly awash in illuminating light.

However, if may be that you’re in bed or out for the night and don’t notice the security lighting going on. This is when the IllumiCam Security Floodlight with Hidden Camera and Audible Warning comes into its own. Not only does the IllumiCam, illuminate your garden or yard, but once it is triggered it can then record a high quality 20 second video from its 2 mega pixel camera or even take a series of still photographs. Both the captured video and images will be time and date stamped.

There is also the option to set the IllumiCam to give out a loud audible warning as well. For example “You Are Trespassing” or “Warning! You Are Being Videotaped By A Security Camera”. You can even set the warning to the sound of a dog barking or just set it up to run in silent mode without any audio.

This summer, don’t let anyone spoil your fun in the sun, protect your home and garden.

Benefits of a Driveway Alarm System

Filed under: Burglar Alarms,Home Security — admin @ 11:28 am

driveway alarm securityEveryday in the media we hear about some crime related news, yet the politicians are still intent on informing us that crime is on the decrease. Unfortunately, crime and opportunistic theft will always happen, as long as somebody leaves a door or a window open, there will always be someone willing to ‘chance their luck‘ in the hope they can getaway with something that doesn’t belong to them.

There are several home security devices on the market that can be used to protect your house, family and personal belongings. Burglar alarms that will alert you, your neighbours and the authorities that someone is attempting to enter your property. Door wedges for added internal protection and door viewers that allow you to inspect anyone without opening the door to them. There are even CCTV cameras that will record 24 hours a day, in high definition giving you a perfect picture of any likely intruder.

However, one of the best security devices has to be Driveway Alarms… These state-of-the-art alarm systems have plenty of advantages over normal systems.

Here are just a few benefits :

  • Driveway alarm systems can also be used as perimeter alarms, some sensor units have a range of 500m range which are ideal for larger estates or even Farm buildings.
  • Driveway alarm systems can be set to inform you that a person or car has entered your yard.
  • Driveway alarms can be used to keep your children safe whilst playing in the garden.
  • Driveway alarms can be solar powered, so no need for batteries or messy cables.
  • Driveway alarms can be used to watch over your outhouses, garden sheds, garages and as well as your parked vehicles.

Driveway alarms are much more than just extra protection for your driveway they can offer added security to rear gardens, side entrances, farmyard shops & areas, loading bays or even unmanned reception areas.

How Vulnerable is Your Second Hand Car?

Filed under: Vehicle Security — admin @ 12:11 pm

car crimeWe all have certain dreams and ambitions for our children that we wish them to aspire too as they grow older. For some it’s College and/or University, while for others we hope they find a good job with decent money and prospects. For most young people a rite of passage into adulthood is learning to drive and then having a vehicle to get about in. However, one of the major problems, that many young people face after having passed their driving test, is that insurance premiums are so high for newer models, they have no option but to purchase an older, cheaper vehicle that fits in with their budget.

However, one of the biggest problems with purchasing an ‘older’ second hand car is that its alarm system may have been disabled or it just doesn’t have one. Leaving the car vulnerable to the opportunistic thief.

Over the last few years, car theft has seen a dramatic decline. Fact is, car theft has fallen from more than 1.1 million thefts a year in 1997 to just 456,000 in 2010 (source, opens in new window). This reduction in car crime can be attributed to the fact that new cars come with a host of security features including alarms, immobilisers and sophisticated tracking systems unlike older models.

When it comes to protecting your car, old or new, Crime Prevention Products can supply a host of vehicle security products that will help stop your ‘pride and joy’ from being targetted by car thiefs.

Pigeons Used To Fight Crime

Filed under: Crime News — admin @ 1:33 pm

Pigeons Used To Fight CrimeWhen it comes to tackling crime and opportunistic theft there are several security devices that can be used to help with your personal protection as well as protecting your home or business. In an ideal world we wouldn’t need to protect and alarm our personal possessions. Long gone are the ‘good old days’ when you could ‘up and leave your front and back doors open while you were out’. Do that today and you’re asking for trouble.

However, it is not all bad news. Here at Crime Prevention Products we’re always on the lookout for new ways to help fight against crime. One such project, which has caught our attention, is teaching youths how to train and keep Racing Pigeons. The scheme, which won a Crime Reduction Award when rolled out in Scotland and is now on trial in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

Woody Allen once described Pigeons as ‘Rats with Wings’, however, there have been numerous famous personalities that have kept Pigeons including Walt Disney, Elvis Presley, Mike Tyson and Queen Elizabeth II

These birds are now being used to encourage teenagers, who have either been expelled from school or are a high-risk of doing so, away from a life of crime. The youngsters involved in the project are given ownership of a Pigeon and taught to care and train the bird eventually progressing to racing the pigeon – so far, the feedback has been highly positive.

This is only one of the many schemes that are are being rolled out across the country in an attempt to curb the rising burglary figures, and until the crime rate falls to a level akin to the ‘good old days’ we’ll still have to rely on our home security systems to make sure our possessions don’t sprout wings and fly away.

Get on your Bikes

Filed under: Bike Security — admin @ 1:45 pm

Stolen Bicycle WheelA lot of us will be trying to lose a few extra pounds in the up-and-coming weeks just in time for their annual holiday getaway. Whatever your reason for trying to lose weight, one of the best ways is to ‘get on your bike’.

There are a few organisations that will help you find the perfect cycle route for you and your family. However, Sky have teamed up with British Cycling to create Sky Ride which will be hosting events all over the country to help encourage people back into the saddle. With the combination of good weather amidst higher fuel prices people are now finding that cycle power is a more economical way to travel to work as well as spending enjoyable cycling trips out with the family.

Yet, like everything else, BIKE THEFT – is a worrying trend to this pastime.

Halfords one of the major distributors of bikes have recently published a report on bike theft – using the freedom of information act and requests to each UK police force, Halfords obtained the latest cycle theft figures which stated that in 2010 there was a grand total of 115,147 bike thefts (reported). However according to the British Crime Survey the figure is more likely to be in the region of around 533,000 stolen bikes in a year. Meaning only about a fifth of us can’t be bothered to report their bike stolen.

To help prevent your bike from simply ‘riding off’ there are several bicycle security products that are available which will prevent your bike from simply ‘disappearing’. If you like your gadgets then consider purchasing a Bicycle Security Tracking Device which is cleverely designed as a fully functioning rear tail light that sends its location to a free worldwide online mapping website. Allowing you to send an SMS message to the tracker and it will reply with GPS coordinates of its location.

Safety While Enjoying the Countryside

Filed under: Travel Security — admin @ 1:57 pm

caravan securityOne of the signs that summer is fast approaching has to be the sight of the white caravan being towed through our national road network. As the weather heats up, many caravan owners can be seen heading off for their traditional weekend breaks or even longer holidays, as this can often work out cheaper in comparison to paying for hotels and flights especially due to the credit crunch. Motorways, by-passes and then country roads often see convoys of these mobile ‘home from homes’ being towed. These slow moving vehicles are often blamed for traffic build up on our roads and are, therefore, often the target for road-rage.

These last few years has seen a dramatic increase in the amount of people ditching the need for a passport and instead holidaying at home, and treating the family to a caravanning holiday on the British coastline. However, as the number of caravans increase, so does the amount of caravan theft. One of the last things anyone wants is for something to be stolen from their caravan, or even worse, returning after a day out to find that their caravan has simply disappeared.

When it comes to protecting your caravan there are several tips that can be done:

  • Use sites that are recommended by Camping and Caravanning clubs.
  • Never leave your doors unlocked, even if you’re just going to fill up the water butt. Opportunistic thieves only need seconds to walk away with your possessions.
  • Never leave valuables lying around in open view.
  • Have some kind of hitch lock that will prevent someone from simply driving off with your caravan.

At Crime Prevention Products we stock Trailer and Caravan Hitch Locks and even fire safety equipment which will ensure that if anything should get out of hand whilst cooking you’ll at least be prepared.

Budget Busting with Dummy Cameras

Filed under: Dummy Cameras — admin @ 1:07 pm

Burglar DoubtAs the financial burden of everyday life starts to hit our pockets, most of us will have no option but attempt to cut back on some family luxuries. The annual holiday to the sun might be postponed, the new family car will have to wait and the extension to the back of the house can be pencilled in for a later date.

Sacrifices need to be made as we recalculate the family budget. However, their is one area that you should consider in your family budget alongside all those monthly utility bills and expenses – home security. Remember, in times of financial hardship it’s more likely that burglars and opportunistic thieves will attempt to take what’s yours in order to make quick and easy money.

If you’re thinking about cutting back or even postponing your home security due to financial reasons then Crime Prevention Products have the perfect solution for you. Home security can be as cheap or expensive as you want to make it. The main thing is to have ‘something’ installed which will make it more difficult for someone to enter your home – even if it is just a decent, high-quality lock on your front/back door.

One of the best methods is to ‘fool’ potential thieves into thinking you’ve got a ‘top of the range security system’ installed and protecting your possessions. Dummy Cameras are the ideal security alternative that doesn’t cost a lot to purchase or install. These dummy cameras are often made by the same makers of real security cameras, so they use the same housing, they simply don’t install the actual expensive camera and internal electrics therefore Fake Surveillance Cameras cost a fraction of the price.

You could also use Dummy Cameras in a combi-system with real CCTV Cameras again to help cut down on cost. Remember the role of a Dummy Camera is to be seen, placing doubt in the mind of a burglar or opportunistic thief and hopefully reducing criminal activity.

Here are a few Dummy Cameras which are available to purchase from Crime Prevention Products.

Police Cutbacks Screen Out Crimes

Filed under: Crime News — admin @ 11:27 am

Police Cutbacks Screen Out CrimesOver the last few months, we’ve seen protests, demonstrations and marches up and down the country, most of these have been aimed at the Coalition Government and the unavoidable cost cutting policies. Although, it is unfortunate that cuts need to be taken within sensitive departments such as policing, hospitals and local councils, many fear that the cuts have been too excessive.

It’s been reported that due to the expected cuts in our policing, some criminal activity will be simply ‘screened out‘ by the authorities. It’s estimated that as many as one in three crimes will be ‘binned‘ as there is little chance of them ever being solved. Even crimes such as burglary, sexual offences, criminal damage and theft from cars will be simply left. Geoffrey Cox, the Tory MP for Torridge and West Devon was extremely concerned about the “exceedingly large number of crimes that are consigned to oblivion at a stage where no investigation has been conducted at all” he also pointed there is “a victim behind every figure” (source opens in new window).

As the reality of having less money in departmental pockets alongside long term unemployment bites – some people will turn to desperate measures in an attempt to make ends meet. Over the last six months, sexual offences, theft, robberies and domestic burglary have all risen from last year’s figures. With our police being stretched to maximum due to financial constraints there is a chance if you’re a victim of any of the above-mentioned crimes there is a 1 in 3 chance of it never being solved?

Protecting your loved ones, your home and your possessions must be a number one priority. That’s why we at Crime Prevention Products have a complete security solution for your home and family. Our range of wireless burglar alarms are perfect for alerting you and your neighbours that someone is attempting to gain entry to your home. Personal alarms are an ideal accessory to carry when you’re out and about. Then there is our range of driveway alarms which can enable you to be aware that someone is approaching your home or business.

By installing even the basics of home security devices you can give your property and your possessions a better chance of not being burgled.

CCTV The Ideal Security Accessory

Filed under: CCTV — admin @ 12:28 pm

cctv systemsA few years ago Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems could only be found in a few selected places such as Banks, Building Societies and some high street department stores. Nowadays, CCTV camera systems are used for almost anything – from spotting cars that are in trouble on our motorways to monitoring hospital wards to preventing violence in our high streets. A recent study showed that there are far less CCTV cameras watching over us than we previously thought. There are around an estimated 1.85 million CCTV cameras in operation around the UK (most, privately owned) which is a considerable amount less than the previously estimated number of 4.2million cameras.

The average British person is likely to have their image captured almost 70 times a day, as they carry out their normal day-to-day routine. Many businesses now incorporate CCTV cameras alongside specialised security systems to help better identify people entering their premises, oversee employees and also as an aid to help watch over their machinery.

However, CCTV cameras are not just used for monitoring our high streets, motorways, workplaces and supermarkets… they’re often the perfect accessory to residential home security systems. Residents are now finding that the high quality images produced by modern CCTV systems are a beneficial part of their home security solution to protecting their property.

At Crime Prevention Products you can purchase from a wide selection of CCTV systems which are designed to be the ideal accessory to your home security. Here we highlight just a few CCTV systems on offer:
