In case you’ve been hiding your head in the cupboard and didn’t notice, Britain is in the grip of an obesity crisis and with the traditional Christmas party season just around the corner, many young men and women will be trying their best to shed some extra pounds and get in shape.
Becoming a member at the local gym is the smart way to get fit although expensive. For those of us that cannot afford a glamorous membership at the gym – the local park is where we’ll head to excercise. However, if you have a 9-5 job and with the winter nights drawing in fast – then the possibility you’ll be training in the dark is a very high one indeed.
Always be aware of your surroundings when walking, jogging or running at night. There are several precautions that you should follow when planning a weight loss ‘action plan’ :

A simple yet reassuring pleasure is sitting at the window on a winters day, staring at the rain as it bounces on the pathway below, it gives us a sense of warmth knowing that there is a sheet of glass between us and the cold and wet world outside. Many homes now have large windows which are easily accessible by all – including children!
Just how easy is it for little ones to climb onto the window sill in your home? Simple mistakes of placing our coffee table or sofa in front of the window – making it very easy and accessible for any child – happen. As parents we may get the fright of our lives when we catch our little ones ascending onto the sill – other parents are less fortunate when things go badly wrong.

It’s the dead of night, your alone in the house and suddenly your door is knocked – what do you do? Primal thoughts start going through your head. Is it a friend? Someone needing help? Or something else?
Do you answer it possibly leaving yourself exposed to danger or do you just ignore it? You look through the window, there’s no one there. You shout, but no-one replies. The front door is a solid wooden door and you have double glazing, so, perhaps, they didn’t hear you. You start to think, “Did someone really knock on my door? Perhaps it was the wind or something falling over outside.” All this happens in seconds. What’s your next move…
The above is a real scenario for so many people living on their own at night.

In today’s hi-tech world of Passive Infra-Red (PIR) security alarms, driveway alarms and window locks – it is hard to believe that burglars are still finding their way into our place of work. Once inside, a burglar is driven by adrenaline as they ‘work‘ their way from the point of entry, going through every drawer and filing cupboard, stealing anything they think has value.
Moving from room-to-room, sometimes trashing everything in their path but most importantly – infringing your personal space.

With the last bank holiday now gone and the warm weather disappearing, most caravan owners will soon be turning their attention to safety and how best to protect their caravans from thieves simply hitching up and driving off with them during the winter months.
Alarms are great and do deter many thieves from getting their hands on other people’s goods, although the only drawback being if no one is around to hear your alarm going off, then…
For that very reason, it’s best to have a supporting security measure in place to deter even the most resolute thief.

Over the next few months, for many, it won’t be safe to venture into their gardens after dark, this is especially true for the older generation. Plant pots hidden in the dark, raised flower beds or broken paths all become potential hazards for a fall but one of the main reasons is they are simply frightened.
It is natural for people to think that the light and warmth of their homes is their security, once they close their curtains at night they believe they are safe from harm. Unfortunately, thieves don’t think like that, they prefer the dark, in-fact the darker the better.

Annual summer leave now just a distant memory, kids back to school, dark nights drawing in and soon we’ll be noticing the temperature getting colder. Time for us to turn on the heating in our homes or at work which also means one thing, the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning increasing.
Carbon Monoxide will be, for the vast majority of us, one of the most toxic substances you’ll come into contact with in your daily routine. It is produced by the incomplete combustion of the fossil fuels such as gas, oil, coal and wood used in boilers, gas fires, water heaters, solid fuel appliances and open fires. Carbon Monoxide has no smell, colour or taste and can kill!

In a recent report from the Home Office it was mentioned that burglary had fallen over the last decade, however in another report released by a leading Insurance company in January found that break-ins were up by 4% over the last quarter of last year and predicted that it would get worse as the recession bites.
Who do we believe?
No matter, all we can do is try our best to protect our homes and possessions. We can install the latest home security, cctv cameras and window guards then we can head off on our annual holidays thinking our property is all safe. As we pack our cases getting ready for the holiday our kids are on Facebook or Twitter – all full of excitement – telling everyone that we are going on holiday and that our property will be empty for the next 2 weeks.

Protecting your property and possessions is always a must, never more so than when you are away from home. Thieves understand this and see tourists and people on business trips as easy targets. That is why you should never relax your guard or your possessions will be gone. Depending on which security lengths you want to go to protect your valuables, it can get very, very, expensive. However, you CAN protect yourself and your valuables without it costing a pretty penny.
