As the credit crunch hits, British holidays will be on the increase that means back to the ‘good old days’ of camping and caravanning. Packing all your belongings into the back of your car or caravan, arriving at your destination unhitching you caravan or tent. Just look around and ask yourself “how safe are my belongings?” as many caravans or mobile homes can contain expensive possessions. Since around 3000 caravans are stolen each year, there are several precautions you can do to help keep your valuables safe.
Look for a site that has been checked by the local Police. When stopped, make sure all your windows and sky lights are locked. A fitted caravan hitch lock is always good to stop thieves quickly hitching up. Clamp your wheels even if you are stopping for 1 night.
A disturbing trend appears to be the fore, where victims have been robbed in their own house while asleep in their beds. This alarming rise of night time burglars, has seen the Police once more issue statements regarding people undertaking simple home security measures. Inspector Ewan Strachan, of the Elgin Police Force, said, “Preventing such crime happening in the first place is what is important … it is imperative that householders secure all windows and doors, including patio doors, before going out for the day/evening or before retiring to bed. These simple security measures will act as an effective deterrent to the would-be thief.”
